Dia: Beacon

2003
Dia: Beacon is a world-renowned contemporary art museum, housed in the vast, light-filled expanse of the former Nabisco Box Factory along New York’s Hudson River.

As partner in charge of his former New York practice, OpenOffice, Alan led the transformation of this 292,000-square-foot industrial space into the permanent home of the Dia collection. Working closely with acclaimed artist Robert Irwin and collaborating one-on-one with several of the living artists represented in the collection, he helped shape a landmark of contemporary art—one that seamlessly integrates space, light, and material to honor the vision of the artists it houses.
