Shadow Hills Ranch. The clients bought a sprawling rustic house at the outskirts of Los Angeles to offer additional room and outdoor space for their growing family. The home had been haphazardly added on to over the years with bland and thoughtless rooms. Lovers approach was to use the art of subtraction to remove endless drywalled surfaces and reveal a barn-like feeling
by exposing unfinished natural materials.
New doors and windows blend with the exposed structure to better connect indoors to outdoors. And new built-ins feature raw materials used in a direct and straightforward way.
